Usain Bolt, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist, eleven-time World Champion and the fastest sprinter in the world, who is compared in athletics with the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, is the only sprinter to have won the Olympic gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4 x 100m relay for seven years in a row, except for the false start over 100m in 2011.

Early Life & Humble Beginning

His full name is Usain St. Leo Bolt and he was born on August 21, 1986, in Sherwood Content, Jamaica, the son of Wellesley Bolt and Jennifer Bolt. He attended Waldensia Primary and initially did not take the sport seriously as an athlete as he preferred to play cricket or football. The coach of his cricket team advised him to try track and fortunately, he did.

By the age of twelve, Usain had become the best in the school for the 100m race, and in 2001 he won his first medal in the annual high school championship and took home a silver medal for the 200m race. Later that same year (2001), he won a silver medal in both the 400 and 200 meters at the CARIFTA Games with a record of 48.28 and 21.81 meters respectively.

Usain Bolt’s Career and Retirement

His first appearance on the world stage was at the 2001 IAAF Junior World Championships in Debrecen (Hungary), but he was unable to qualify for the 200m final. The following year, however, he won the Junior World Championships in the same track event and became the youngest ever to win a gold medal in the championship. 2003 ways to be an amazing year for the youngster, as he won not one but four gold medals at the CARIFTA Games to win the Austin Sealy Trophy for the Games’ most outstanding athlete. After his retirement, Bolt did not consider a return to athletics but tried to become a professional footballer and try out his newfound passion. In August 2018 he joined the Australian football club Central Coast Mariners. His time with the club was short-lived, as it was barely three months before he left the club because he could not be paid.
