ABC’s highly acclaimed sitcom The Middle would close its curtains after season 9, and Sue Heck, the Middle’s daughter, played by Eden Sher, would probably be one of the most missing characters. Sher owes her widespread recognition to the long-running series. It was only when she got the role in 2009 that her career really opened up.
After numerous nominations, Sher won the 2013 Critics’ Choice Television Award for best-supporting actress in a comedy series. Her medium popularity brought her other notable roles in movies like Veronica Mars, where she played the role of Penny. Let us explore more facts about this funny and extremely talented actress.
Eden Sher Bio/Facts
Eden Rebecca Sher was born on December 26, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, to Jewish parents. In real life, Sher is also the middle child, who has an older and a younger brother. Eden grew up with a love of acting, and from the age of 8 in elementary school, she began performing in both school plays and local theater productions. Like most child actors, Eden started out in commercials like Capital One and Fruity Pebbles.
Her love of acting solidified after one of her recorded school plays and led to her appearing on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, where she of course also performed various skits.
In 2001, at the age of 10, Sher made her feature film debut in Stuck. She had a guest role in the last season of the Fox drama series The O.C. in 2003. Three years later, in 2006, Sher got a recurring role in Showtime’s comedy-drama Weeds. That same year, she had another recurring role in Sons & Daughters, where she appeared in 11 episodes.
Not exactly encouraged by the slow start to her acting career, Eden decided to go to college. She had attended a public school for the performing arts. Before that, however, she had made a pilot for The Middle, and just as college preparations were underway, she was called up to have the series selected for 13 episodes and then a whole season… and then other seasons.
“I wanted to go to college. I dreamed of being an actor, but oh, if it didn’t work out, I applied to college. I really wanted to go to Barnard, and when they said no, I thought, ‘Oh, my life is over,'” the actress told the media about her role in The Middle.
She added: “And a week later I thought, ‘Oh, well, the pilot I did in February just got picked up for 13 episodes’. I was prepared for it to last 13 episodes and then it would be over. That would be cool. If I did 13 episodes of a TV show and it aired, that would be great. Then it was taken over for the whole season, and I thought, “We have a whole season.”
The first season of the show received tremendous critical acclaim, which continued year after year, giving Sher and her co-stars national recognition.
Although the shooting of the sitcom left Sher little time for side projects, she still managed to land a handful of them. In 2012 she appeared in Pair of Kings. In 2014 she appeared in Veronica Mars and since 2015 she has been starring as Star Butterfly in the original Disney XD animated series Star vs. Her efforts in 2017 includes the stepsisters and the outcasts.
Her long-running role may end in 2017, but Sher has done enough to show off her talent, and movie fans can see what the future holds for her.
Eden Sher Net Worth
Sher’s income from the film industry was never released. However, some reliable sources have estimated her net worth at $1.5 to 2 million.
Besides acting, Sher loves reading and writing and has even earned from the proceeds of her own book. She published her first book “The Emotionary” in 2016, which is simply “a dictionary of the emotional words that don’t exist for feelings that do exist. She created the words all by herself. The book was published by Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers.
“When I found out Penguin wanted to do The Emotionary, I couldn’t believe I was being paid to be compulsive, neurotic, and emotionally complacent, all things I do for free,” Sher said in a statement.
