Jason Pierre-Paul, nicknamed Haitian Sensation or JPP, was born to Haitian parents who immigrated to the United States in the 1980s before he was born on January 1, 1989, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The American Football defense is currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL).

Jason was a miracle to watch during his time as a college football player. So the New York Giants wasted no time in selecting him for the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. After that, he continued to make the team proud with two Pro Bowls and a win in the Super Bowl XLVI.

Before the NFL, Jason Pierre-Paul was just a student at Deerfield Beach High School who played basketball so well, but after four years on the court, he had to switch to soccer due to a leg injury. Fresh out of high school, he lost 51 tackles and 19 in defense at the College of the Canyons in California, which meant a defeat for his new team. Later he managed 14 tackles and was honored with the All-WSC and the All-America award for the first team. He also made a good impression in 2008 with his performance on the football team at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. His impressive statistics at the college earned him the “First-Team Little All-American” award.

In 2009, he transferred to the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, and participated in thirteen games for the Bulls. He recorded seven starts, 45 tackles (16.5 in defeats), 6.5 sacks, one interception, broke three passes, and forced two fumbles. His time on the team earned him more recognition when he was named first-team All-America by Pro Football Weekly and won the first-team All-Big East, among other awards. Jason was also named Defensive Lineman of the Week at the College Performance Awards.

His college career came to an abrupt end after his junior year, however, when Jason Pierre-Paul signed up for the 2010 NFL Draft and gave up his last year of college.

NFL Career

Jason Pierre-Paul joined the National Football League in the 2010 season after the New York Giants selected him in the first round, which meant 15th place in the NFL Draft of the Year. The contract with the Giants included a five-year contract for $20.05 million, for which $11.629 million is guaranteed. He made his NFL debut on September 12, 2010, when he recorded two tackles for the New York Giants. By the end of the season, he had played 16 games, played a total of 24 solo tackles, and recorded 4.5 sacks. Accordingly, the Pro Football Rosters named him the 2010 All-NFL Draft Team.

In his second season Pierre-Paul got more playing time, he played 12 starts. He was selected for his first Pro Bowl and was named the first All-Pro Team. His 2011 season includes 65 tackles, 16.5 bags, a safe, and two forced fumbles. With his help, the Giants won 37-34 in one game against the Dallas Cowboys, making him the first player in NFL history to block a sack, a forced fumble, and a field goal in one game. On December 27, 2011, without being on the ballot, he was voted his first Pro Bowl.

In 2012 he recorded his first interception in his career and brought it back for a touchdown. He finished the season with 6.5 sacks and 43 tackles in total. Despite a back surgery in 2013, Jason Pierre-Paul caught another interception of a pass from Scott Tolzien and returned it for another touchdown. He also finished the 2014 season with 12.5 sacks, 77 tackles, three forced fumbles, and six defended passes.

In 2015, Jason was branded by the New York Giants with a franchise tag that was non-exclusive. Later in the season, he suffered a serious hand injury in a fireworks accident that occurred at home. This cost him his right index finger but did not stop him from signing a one-year contract with the Giants on October 27. However, the injury took its toll on him as he lost weight and had to carry a padded bat on his injured hand, which had a negative effect on his performance.

In the 2016 season, he received an offer from the Arizona Cardinals but decided to stay with the New York Giants. That season he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. He was operated on an inguinal hernia and missed the rest of the season.

In the 2017 season, he was again included in the franchise ranking, this time signing a $62 million four-year contract with the Giants with a $40 million guarantee. Nevertheless, he was sold by the Giants to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 22, 2018. This came in the third selection round of the 2018 NFL Draft and exchange of selections in the fourth round.

The defensive ending comes from a family of Haitian immigrants who left their home country for the United States in 1983. His parents are Jean, a legally blind man, and his wife Marie. Jason grew up with two siblings, Herbie and Nadie.

Although there is no record of his marriage, he has a child with his girlfriend, Farrow Germain. Their son Josiah Pierre-Paul was born in 2015.
