Jim Carrey was born James Eugene Carrey on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. His parents are Percy Carrey and Kathleen Oram. He is of mixed ethnic origin, as his father is original of French-Canadian descent, while his mother is of Scottish, French, and Irish descent. He is the last of four children. His older siblings are John, Patricia, and Rita. His nationality is Canadian and he attended Aldershot High School in Burlington, Ontario.

In 1979 the comedian Rodney Dangerfield Carey saw him perform in a comedy store and hired him for a season. Carrey did other odd jobs but wanted more, so he decided to delve into the world of acting. He wasn’t that successful at the beginning of his acting career. But he had a big breakthrough when he played the leading role in Jack Bernstein’s movie Ace Ventura in 1994: Pet Detective and from then on the superstar waved.
