Marbury was born into a large family of seven children, he was the sixth child. The Coney Island-born NBA star attended Abraham Lincoln High School. Born in the 1970s, more precisely on February 20, 1977, Stephon was considered the next big star outside of New York during his formative years. Under the watchful eyes of many colleges that sought his talents, Stephon Marbury was one of the most exciting talents in the country. Of the many schools that were interested in the Brooklyn-born point guard, he chose Georgia Tech because the school’s coach was so determined to follow him.
His college career got off to a brilliant start and led the team to the semi-finals of an NCAA tournament in their first season with the Yellow Jackets. However, after playing a season with the Yellow Jackets, Stephon decided to declare for the NBA Draft.

He never played for the Bucks, however, as he was immediately switched to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his first two seasons with the Timberwolves, he was a prominent leader of the team, leading it to two playoffs in 1997 and 1998.
He didn’t last long in the Timberwolves and was eventually transferred to the New Jersey Nets. He spent two seasons with the Nets, and while he continued to demonstrate his own individual brilliance, he had limited quality talent around him, and the Nets never made the playoffs during his time on the team. Stephon earned his reputation as a bad boy after a public feud with the head coach of the New York Knicks in the 2005/2006 season, and after moving to the New York Knicks in 2004, he fell out with head coach Larry Brown.
